One IT partner for a semiconductor company that needed many

How Sagence AI moved from four specialist vendors to a single accountable technology partner, covering helpdesk, Linux engineering, network, cloud, Microsoft 365 and a Zero Trust security posture.

The situation

Semiconductor companies put unusual demands on IT. The same business needs a responsive helpdesk for everyday users, deep Linux systems engineering for the design environment, a network that holds up under engineering workloads, and a security posture strong enough to protect intellectual property that represents years of work.

Add to that a cloud environment on AWS, Microsoft 365 for the whole company, and the Atlassian toolchain the engineering organisation runs on, and the list of skill sets gets longer still. Most companies buy them from several different places and spend their own time holding the seams together. Sagence AI wanted all of it from one partner.

Where we started

The engagement began with the work that was hurting most: helpdesk and Linux systems engineering. Everyday support for the wider business, and specialist engineering support for the Linux environment the design teams depend on.

That first phase mattered beyond the tickets it closed. It gave both sides evidence. Sagence AI saw how Raise Networks operated day to day, and we learned the environment properly before touching anything structural.

Network

As the relationship grew, Raise Networks took on network architecture and operations across the environment. In a semiconductor business the network is not back-office plumbing. Design workloads, shared storage and simulation traffic all depend on it, and engineering productivity tracks network reliability more closely than most people outside the industry expect.

Cloud, Microsoft 365 and the engineering toolchain

The environment does not stop at the Linux servers. Raise Networks runs the full stack around them:

  • AWS cloud architecture and operations, run as one environment with the on-premises Linux systems rather than as a separate island
  • Microsoft 365 across the whole company, including Entra ID, Exchange, Teams and SharePoint, with Intune managing the devices
  • Jira and Confluence administration, including projects, permissions and workflows
  • Bitbucket for source control, repository access and integration with the engineering workflow

This matters more than a tools list suggests. Microsoft 365, source control, issue tracking and the cloud environment sit on one identity and access model, so a joiner or a leaver is a single change rather than five, and an auditor sees one consistent story instead of five disconnected ones.

Zero Trust across the whole environment

With growth came exposure. Sagence AI needed a Zero Trust security posture covering the data center, the cloud and end users at the same time. Raise Networks delivered that as a complete implementation rather than a set of tools:

  • Zero Trust architecture spanning data center, cloud and end-user environments
  • Microsoft 365 Defender and Intune for endpoint protection and device management
  • Identity and access management built around the Linux engineering cadence, so security fitted how the design teams actually work rather than fighting it
  • Synopsys platform support for the analog and digital chip design environment

The fourth point is what distinguishes this engagement. Securing a standard corporate environment is well-trodden ground. Securing one where Synopsys workloads and Linux engineering cycles are the business requires a partner who understands the security model and the engineering workflow equally.

IT leadership

Alongside delivery, Shree Amujala serves as Head of IT and Fractional CIO for Sagence AI, carrying end-to-end responsibility for IT strategy and roadmap, vendor management across the IT stack, day-to-day IT operations, and security and risk posture.

Most providers deliver services and wait to be told what to do next. Sagence AI has a technology leader accountable for the whole picture, without carrying a full-time CIO on the payroll.

What changed

The outcome Sagence AI cares about is not a list of tools. It is that IT stopped being something the leadership team had to think about. Helpdesk, Linux engineering, AWS, Microsoft 365, the Atlassian toolchain, network and security are all handled, vendors are managed, and the company's attention sits where it belongs, on the business roadmap and the chip platform.

Raise Networks started with our helpdesk and Linux engineering and earned everything that came after: our AWS environment, Microsoft 365, our Atlassian toolchain, our network and our security posture. They implemented Zero Trust across our data center, cloud and end-user environments without disrupting how our design teams work, which is harder than it sounds in a semiconductor environment. Shree acts as our Head of IT and Fractional CIO and owns IT end to end, so my team can concentrate on our business roadmap.
